David Kiser
David Kiser is the founder of both locations of Bikram Yoga Charleston, South Carolina's only Bikram studios. Since his first experience with this form of yoga, Kiser dedicated himself and has since become a Bikram Yoga instructor and competitor. He is devoted to sharing his beliefs in the benefits of Bikram Yoga.
Kiser's passion for Bikram Yoga has been fostered by his recovery from a disheartening neurological disorder. At age 10, Kiser was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, which severely affects vocal and motor functions and causes tics that cannot be controlled by the nervous system. Throughout his life the tics caused severe pain in David's neck and back and affected his ability to interact with others and attend social gatherings. Neurologists placed him on multiple medications and tranquilizers. They also recommended Botox injections at age 19 that would have essentially immobilized his neck to prevent further tics. Considering the risks too great, David declined the procedure. It was not until 2003, after a Bikram class in New York City, that he finally felt relief from his tics. David has been an avid Bikram Yoga believer ever since. He now takes no medications for his condition.
Mr. Kiser saw positive results from Bikram as he continued his practice in Washington, DC. He lost over 80 pounds through yoga and running and continued to see improvement in his Tourette's Syndrome without medication. Kiser is Porter Gaud Alumni and a graduate of George Washington University in Economics and a Masters degree in Hospitality Management. He completed Bikram's Teacher Training in Los Angeles in 2006. David has since joined an elite group of individuals who instruct for Bikram at his teacher's training.
Kiser opened the Mount Pleasant location of Bikram Yoga Charleston in February 2009, and through seeing the success of it's design and formula, decided to design the downtown location of the studio himself, which opened in January 2011.
